Uplift Somalia aims to equip youth with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities they need to thrive and contribute to the progress of society.

Uplift Somalia convened a meeting with the leaders of student unions from SIMAD University, Benadir University, and Mogadishu University. These three universities form the first stage of Uplift Somalia’s student outreach plan, and the team has committed to follow-up engagements with other universities and student associations in the coming months.

Purpose of the Meeting

The meeting aimed to establish a strong and collaborative partnership between Uplift Somalia and University Student Associations. The conversation focused on identifying the skills and knowledge students need most, and how these needs align with the demands of the job market, community development, and Somalia’s evolving socio-economic context. Uplift Somalia also shared the types of skill development programs it provides for youth and students, including training opportunities, leadership development, practical learning sessions, and other initiatives designed to strengthen their personal and professional growth.

Key Discussion Points

The dialogue explored several important areas, including:

  • developing student-centered programs that promote leadership, creativity, and practical skills
  • creating training opportunities that prepare students for employment and entrepreneurship
  • establishing forums for dialogue, problem solving, and collaborative thinking among student groups
  • identifying the challenges students face inside their universities and designing initiatives that respond directly to their needs and realities

Planned Partnership Activities

Uplift Somalia and the student leaders agreed on the need for a wide range of programs that support academic, professional, and personal development. These include:

  • training workshops
  • development forums
  • brainstorming and innovation sessions
  • practical initiatives that connect students with learning and real-world experience

These activities will be co-developed with student associations to ensure relevance and value.

Uplift Somalia’s Commitment

Uplift Somalia remains committed to filling the gaps experienced by youth and students by equipping them with the skills and opportunities they need to grow, lead, and contribute to society. In a country where many young people face high unemployment and limited access to guidance, our mission is to build a society where young people are empowered to innovate and drive lasting change.

Together, We Uplift One Another.
